Doula Services in Austin, Texas

What is a Doula?

A Birth Doula provides ongoing information, emotional and physical support to women before birth, during labor and birth, and in the period immediately afterward.

The Doula is not a medical person - not a doctor, nurse or midwife.  Instead, she is there just for the support of the mother and her partner, if applicable.  She can also assist the mother in developing a Birth Plan, and in communicating with medical staff.

Women who are supported by a Birth Doula frequently report a significant decrease in the length of labor, the perception of pain, and the need for anesthesia or analgesia, as well as fewer caesarian sections.

In addition, those women and their partners express a high level of satisfaction with their experience and an enhanced relationship as partners and parents.

My own philosophy as a Doula is one of complete respect for the choices made by my clients.  Whether you choose to give birth in a hospital, a birth center or at home, with medication or without, I am present to support you in having the birth you desire.
